End
The cotton kingdom is long gone, but not easily forgotten. Between the idolization of antebellum planter life through stories such as Gone With The Wind, still observable racism, and infrastructure and wealth resulting from gains of those in the kingdom, Georgia bears signs of her past. One inescapable fact is the leverage cotton provided the state. The small town of Atlanta grew, with the cotton it shipped on its railroad tracks, into the south eastern business capital it is today. Beyond the land mass, Sea Island cotton is the grandfather of the world's highest quality cotton breeds and you're likely wearing a garment made of this cotton right now. And while this exhibit does not make social claims, it's important to remember the effects of slavery on this state, no matter the color of your skin. Gone, but not forgotten, the cotton kingdom was a creation of man and ended at the decision of men.
